Measure N Will Create More than 20,000 Jobs for San Benito County
Our economy has started to slide into a recession and thousands of our neighbors have lost their jobs. Now — more than ever — we need a project like Strada Verde that brings unprecedented job growth and economic opportunity to San Benito County.
Voting Yes on N would create Strada Verde, a state-of-the-art autonomous vehicle testing and e-commerce center in the northwest corner of the County. It will bring new employers to our County and with them, 5,500 permanent high-quality, high-paying jobs and more than 18,000 construction-related jobs.
Minimizing Traffic on 25 by Offering a Direct Connection to 101
Once completed, Strada Verde will connect directly to Highway 101, limiting further traffic congestion on Highway 25. Measure N will also combat traffic congestion by providing $18 million in private funds for public roadway improvements at no cost to taxpayers. By providing a major job center in the County, Measure N will also cut down on commute times, offering employment opportunities that are closer to home for local residents.
Improving Water Quality, Protecting Wildlife and Expanding Parkland
Voting Yes on N will create a new, 209-acre public park along three miles of the Pajaro River, providing public access to the riverfront for the first time. Creating the park will improve water quality in the Pajaro River and restore and protect wildlife habitat along the river. The project is expected to achieve net zero water waste.
Measure N will also honor our County’s rich agricultural heritage by protecting 562 acres exclusively for agricultural use. These protected acres will ensure that these historical uses remain an important part of the area and they will produce healthy and fresh food for Strada Verde’s employees and visitors.
Millions of Dollars for Fire Safety, Schools and Other Essential County Services at No Cost to Taxpayers
It is estimated that Measure N will provide more than $24 million in new tax revenue to the County and other agencies every single year, and it will do so at absolutely no cost to local taxpayers. Revenue generated by the project will support vital County services like County fire protection, emergency response, schools, traffic relief, road repair and public safety. The development is to be entirely privately funded and will not rely on any taxpayer money or local government subsidy.
Unlike many other development projects, Measure N is not a residential development and there is no housing proposed in the plan — it will just bring our county the jobs and economic stimulus we desperately need. Measure N is a great way to revitalize our struggling economy and it will do so at absolutely no cost to taxpayers. We hope you’ll join us in voting Yes on N.
